Why AI video backgrounds jump — and how to hold cuts consistent

English · XCONDA Hub

Hello, this is XCONDA.

If you have made video with AI, you have met a fatal frustration at least once.

The first cut comes out exactly how you wanted, and then from the second cut the background shifts subtly, the character's jawline changes, and the room you had is suddenly a completely different room.

In the end you hit regenerate six, seven times to get the scene you want.

More regenerations means a higher production cost.

Every credit spent is money, so people do not experiment freely, and most end up never finishing even a single video.

On 31 July, Cubeberry CEO Jinseo Lee addressed exactly this 'cut consistency' problem at a workshop of the Korea AI Drama Creators Association. It was a diagnosis grounded in the field, from a PD with 28 years directing dramas at KBS.

"The line a director least wants to hear on set was 'the cut jumps'. And the very same problem turns up on AI video sets."

This post shares the key points and the fixes presented at that workshop.

Sponsoring the association workshop & Seedance 2.0 credits

On Friday 31 July 2026, the Korea AI Drama Creators Association workshop was held at the ByteDance Korea office in Gangnam, Seoul. Around 80 members attended.

Cubeberry took part as an official sponsor and provided attendees with Seedance 2.0 credits through the XCONDA platform, set up so people could try it hands-on on the spot.

CEO Jinseo Lee, who serves as a director of the association, explained why they supported the event.

"When I meet creators they say the same thing: AI tools are everywhere, but they have never carried one piece through to the end. I deeply related to the line that credits are too precious to press a single button.

A finished piece that pushes past the limits of AI video

👉 Watch the <Cold Sight> spin-off trailer

It adapts a disaster-SF original IP into the zombie genre. Every cut was AI-generated, with not a single live-action shot.

We are sharing Cubeberry's production pipeline: what was hard while making this trailer and how we solved it. The finished piece alone gets a "that looks good", but what matters is the part before it.

Plaintext

[Space / cut consistency]
TURN (build the virtual set) ➔ FLEXBOARD (lock the key image per cut)

[Model use and generation]
Seedance 2.0 (feed the references) ➔ generate a 15-second clip ➔ repeat N times ➔ finish the feature trailer
  • Seedance 2.0: ByteDance's high-performance AI model
  • TURN & FLEXBOARD: Cubeberry's in-house causality-based directing engine
  • This was written against Seedance 2.0 at the time of the workshop; XCONDA now offers Seedance 2.5.
Why AI video backgrounds jump — and how to hold cuts consistent

Fix ① Lock the space first — `TURN`

👉 See how <Cold Sight> was built with TURN

Feed in a single photo and you get a 360° virtual set. You place characters inside the set and move the camera angle freely, so the same space holds perfectly as the cuts change.

Why did AI backgrounds keep jumping?

Think about a live-action set and the answer is obvious. The director builds the set first and then shoots inside it for days, moving the camera. Because the space is fixed, the camera can go anywhere.

Existing AI video, by contrast, imagines and generates a new space for every cut. However precisely you write the prompt, the room in cut two cannot be the room in cut one.

Polishing the prompt has a ceiling, because the order itself is wrong. `TURN` is an engine that corrects the generation order to match a real set: lock the space first. (Currently in commercial beta as v1.0.)

Fix ② Decide the directing intent before generating — `FLEXBOARD`

👉 See how <Cold Sight> was directed with FLEXBOARD

Design the storyboard for up to 36 cuts on one screen. You direct while seeing the whole narrative, and fix only the cuts that need it, one by one. The confirmed key images are passed to Seedance 2.0 as references.

Fewer regenerations

  • Fewer regenerations: down from 6–7 to 3–4
  • Budget saved: the same budget now makes roughly twice the video

"The original purpose of a director's storyboard is to put the same picture in every crew member's head before the shoot. In AI video you have to convey the director's intent to the AI the same way."

Where the AI video market stands, and where Cubeberry sits

Cubeberry divides the AI video market into three stages.

  • Stage 1 | the short-clip era: competing on the quality of a single cut (done)
  • Stage 2 | the web-drama era: securing consistency across cuts (under way)
  • Stage 3 | the AI feature era: the composition to carry one long narrative to the end

Most tools on the market are still at stage 1. Cubeberry is building the tools stage 2 and 3 need to produce long-form narrative.

"People ask why a tool maker makes its own films. It is because the hard-won experience of getting stuck while producing becomes the next feature of the tool."

The AI short film <In Love with Mir>, released last March, proved a 10-minute piece could hold up. <Cold Sight> is the next step: proving feature-length narrative capability.

"I do not think this method is ours alone. For me, an AI feature coming out in Korea matters more than our own revenue."
